First Bloom Developmental Lab was founded on a vision to rethink what specialized education can look and feel like.
We believe students are better able to learn when they feel safe, supported, connected, and actively engaged in the world around them. At First Bloom, meaningful academics are woven into hands-on experiences with agriculture, indoor growing systems, sustainability, and land stewardship, giving students opportunities to learn through observation, movement, problem-solving, responsibility, and real-world application.
Our intentionally small learning environment supports students with a range of learning, developmental, emotional, behavioral, and regulation needs. With just six students in each lab, First Bloom provides the structure, relationships, individualized support, and predictable routines students need to strengthen confidence, independence, and readiness to learn.
Agriculture gives that learning purpose.
Students do more than study concepts. They plant, measure, monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, care for living systems, and see the results of their own work.
Through these experiences, academic learning becomes tangible while students build practical skills they can carry beyond the classroom.
About Us
First Bloom Developmental Lab is a therapeutic special education micro-school created for students who benefit from a smaller, highly individualized educational environment.
Our approach begins with regulation. Calm routines, clear expectations, sensory-aware spaces, supportive relationships, and intentional transitions help create an environment where students can engage in learning without losing the joy and dignity that should be part of childhood.
Agriculture, indoor farming, sustainability, and land stewardship serve as core learning platforms throughout the program. Students use these experiences to apply skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, communication, executive functioning, problem-solving, and everyday life.
Learning is purposeful, hands-on, and connected.
Students are supported according to their individual strengths and needs, with opportunities to build academic skills, emotional regulation, communication, persistence, organization, decision-making, and greater independence.
Progress is documented intentionally so that growth can be recognized, instructional decisions can be informed by data, and families and educational teams can remain connected to each student's development.

Our Program Includes
Meaningful Academics & Experiential Learning
Academic instruction is connected to purposeful, hands-on experiences whenever appropriate. Students apply reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and communication skills through projects, agriculture, problem-solving, discussion, and real-world applications.
Modern growing systems provide additional opportunities to explore botanical science, environmental studies, sustainability, technology, supply chains, entrepreneurship, and emerging agricultural fields.
Executive Functioning & Independence
Daily routines and purposeful projects provide natural opportunities to strengthen planning, organization, task initiation, persistence, communication, self-regulation, decision-making, and independent living skills.
Students are supported in learning not only what to do, but how to approach a task, follow a process, solve problems, adapt when something does not work, and carry skills into new situations.
Individualized Support
With only six students in each class-lab, our team has the opportunity to know students as individuals, their strengths, interests, needs, communication styles, patterns of regulation, and ways of engaging with learning.
Support can be responsive, intentional, and connected to each student's educational needs and goals.
Progress Monitoring
Student growth is supported through ongoing observation, documentation, data collection, and review across relevant academic, behavioral, regulation, executive-functioning, and independence goals.
Progress information helps guide instruction and provides families and educational teams with a clearer understanding of student growth over time.
Specialized Learning Materials
Students have access to the adaptive learning tools, sensory supports, agricultural systems, technology, seeds, growing materials, and project resources needed to participate meaningfully in the First Bloom learning environment.
